Frequently Asked Questions

  • We use the constructional approach, which focuses on building behavior repertoires, the absence of which is the problem. This differs from a pathological approach that focuses on the elimination of “problem behavior”.

  • We do not use any punitive tools in our training, and avoid being coercive to our best ability. We work to find the function of the behavior and use that to build new behavior.

  • Typically 60-90 minutes.

  • Currently we only offer one-on-one sessions, but group classes will be available soon!

  • Yourself and your dog, and any equipment related to the behavior of interest. Our initial session will focus on assessing behavior without intervention, so you can leave the treats and training tools at home. If you have any questions, please let us know before your first session.

  • It varies from dog to dog, but with our package program, you should leave with the skills to continue where we left off and work on any future behavior concerns that arise. Additional sessions can be purchased at the package rate if needed.

  • We will discuss your dog’s history and your goals, assess the behavior, and begin a training program.

  • We prefer to observe the behavior in the environment it occurs, whether in your home, outside, or another location. If you come to us, the training will be outdoors.

  • “Training” occurs as soon as your dog enters the environment; it’s never too early to start training with a purpose!

  • We work with all types of behavior issues, including human aggression, dog aggression, cat aggression, separation anxiety, resource guarding, excessive barking, pulling on leash, fearful behaviors, jumping on humans, mouthing, potty training, begging, counter surfing, chasing, biting, anxiety, inter-household aggression, escape artists, and door dashers.

  • We work with all dogs regardless of behavior history.

  • No, while genetics plays a large role in dog behavior, we view each dog as an individual.

  • We're happy to accommodate special requests. We have experience fostering dogs with various medical and behavioral needs and aim to set each dog up for success.

  • Alex graduated “with distinction” from the CATCH training program and became a “Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed” (CPDT-KA) through the CCPDT. Kelli is working towards her CPDT-KA certification, which she will complete by the end of 2024.
